  • ABC Misrepresents Palin’s “Task from God” Quote

Governor Palin interviewed by ABC's Gibson

Governor Palin interviewed by ABC's Gibson

This week Republican Vice President Nominee, Sarah Palin, sat down with ABC News’ Charlie Gibson, for an exclusive interview and look into the real Sarah Palin.

In the interview, Gibson asked Palin:

“You said recently in your old church, ‘Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.’ Are we fighting a Holy War?”

The televised version of the interview went on to show Governor Palin defending the statement. However, ABC News posted the full transcript of the interview which had a very different look.

The following quote comes from an article at Fox News Website http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/12/abc-edits-out-palin-objection-to-holy-war-question/

Palin’s response, which appears in the transcript but was edited out of the televised version, was:

“You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.”

    “It’s exact words,” Gibson said.

The problem is that Gibson left out the full quote that Palin had said at her church:

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

What exactly is the media trying to do to Sarah Palin? This is a terrible representation of what the liberal media is all about. Twisting words to attack individuals, and organizations is all they know how to do.

    UPDATE

I just read an interesteing piece from my friends over at hotair.com, read their view here.

They didn’t edit it out. They actually showed her speaking in church. I heard her say exactly what you posted there.

Ryan, They left out the part after the “task from God” in her video clip. She goes on to say “That’s what we have to make sure that we are praying for.”

oh I see. They did cut some out. I still don’t think that last sentence really makes a difference, since she basically said the same thing in the interview as she did in church.

I think it makes a big difference, it made it seem (coming from Gibson) that she was saying we are in a “Holy War”, but the end of that quote makes it sound like we are just praying that this is what God wants us to do. I think it makes all the difference.
